In May, my people moved Baxter and me and LOTS of boxes about a 25 minute car ride away to a big, old house. They say it is “pre-civil war”, but I cannot wrap my head around how many dog years that is.

There were a lot of strange people here for a long time making so much noise!I don’t understand why they got to dig holes and I didn’t, but now there is a fence around the whole property and a beautiful pond with 3 waterfalls that Baxter swims in every chance he gets.

There are also two cottages here that look like something out of Southern Living magazine. ( I personally prefer BARK magazine, so I wouldn’t know). They don’t look anything like the cabins in Mills River, but they are very luxurious, with all the same amenities, plus soft bamboo robes your people can wear while they are curled up in front of a fire, getting out of their private hot tub or out of the plush beds triple sheeted with super soft Comphy spa sheets.

We are only a few miles away from Dupont State Forest and Pisgah National Forest, so hikes are our new favorite thing! Plus, downtown Brevard is a fun, dog-friendly town with some really good restaurants- Square Root  and Marco Trattoria welcome us outside and are our favorites! We don’t have the chickens and goats here like in Mills River, but we sure like watching the beautiful and humongous horses  in the pasture next door.

I hope you will check out the Barkwells website for details and more photos or to book a stay. Baxter and I can’t wait to show you around!
