We’re more than dog-friendly. Barkwells is an unique, dog-centric place to run, swim and play with your four-legged friends. Exceptional, fully furnished and equipped vacation home accommodations in a low density, gated community create a haven for like-minded dog lovers. You’ll find freedom and fun in a safe and secure environment on acres of fenced meadows with a pond.
With only 8 cabins on more than 8 acres in Mills River, or three homes on 6 acres in Brevard, you’ll experience privacy, security and a more than 15 year history of meticulous housekeeping standards. Relax with your two and four-legged family, secure in the knowledge that everything is here for you to safely vacation with your dogs far away from every day, yet close to all the fun.
Sit on your gated front porch or chuck the ball as far as you can across acres of meadows. Just five minutes from shopping dining and the Sierra Nevada brewery, our Mills River location features 8 cozy, comfy and fully equipped cabins with private yards and hot tubs. It’s the perfect place to relax and have fun with your best friends!
In true Barkwells style, this property has all the amenities of the original Mills River property; fenced perimeter, electronic gates, meadows for running and ponds for swimming. Just 15 minutes from Dupont State Forest and Pisgah National Forest, enjoy one of our two luxurious cottages that offeryou expansive meadow and mountain views, a private hot tub, a fenced yard with dog door and the relaxing sound of water falling into the ponds outside your door. The extra added attraction here is miniature donkeys! (Fully fenced, of course.)
“Perhaps one of the best places on the planet to take your four-legged companion is outside of Asheville, where the all-cottage resort Barkwells was built with dogs in mind. Your pup can roam freely from his own door in each of the property’s eight one- and two-bedroom cabins, which have gated porches and fenced-in yards. Acres of grass, a pond stocked with fish, and farm animals like chickens and goats, will keep him (and all of his new friends) entertained for days.” Travel & Leisure
“Asheville is an Appalachian city, not too big and with a progressive and welcoming feel. Best of all, it’s full of dog-friendly places, including Barkwells®, our editors’ pick for best stays. A true dog/human retreat, Barkwells offers fabulous, well-appointed cabins, each with a kitchen and fenced-in yard; the property itself is completely fenced as well. There are lots of opportunities for off-leash socializing, making new friends and taking a plunge in the large pond. There really is no place quite like this.” The Bark
