What an amazing place. I always travel with my two girls. This would be such a fantastic vacation place for them and us. The homes are incredible and super clean. The owners and staff are amazing. If you travel with your dogs, you must try this place. Don R May 2024
Darling cabins lining a big pond. Dogs everywhere – running, swimming. Cabins nicely appointed and have everything to make your stay with your pup enjoyable. They have thought of everything! I’m sure if kids were here they’d be swimming and fishing!

We love everything about the place. It never ceases to amaze me how clean, well laid out and well stocked each of the cabins are. Chances are, if you need it during your stay, it is already there!!!! We took our newest family member, Silah with us this past week and she had an absolute BLAST running on the grounds, chasing balls, playing with all the other 4 legged guests and most of all, chasing squirrels!!!!! (sorry for her deep barking as she endlessly tried to climb the trees to get them - that's the 45% Mountain Cur in her). She even went swimming, (with the help of her sister Teca), after her beloved ball went floating too far out in the pond.
Our old girl, Abby enjoyed her stay as well, even tho she only had the energy for a jaunt around the pond once during our stay. She appreciated the comfy couches and bed and of course the yummy treats. We can't wait to come back next month. We always make great memories.

Barkwell's is a dog's paradise. They have cabins of various sizes for singles to multi dog & families. The area is completely enclosed for the ultimate security for dogs of all size. The grounds are well maintained in a quiet (some roosters crow) pastoral setting. If your looking for a quiet getaway with a supremely dog friendly environment then Barkwell's is the place to go.

Whenever I feel in need of some tranquility, my mind will now go back to Barkwells and the memories that were created there. After adopting 2 additional senior dogs last year I thought our chances of going on a dream vacation with all 6 were next to impossible but Barkwells made it possible to have a place that is a great escape for pet parents and their pack. Clean, relaxing and a multitude of pet friendly places to go in this area and the staff was so helpful, even providing crates one day so we could do a special excursion in to Brevard with our 2 founding pack members.

Barkwells is our happy place. The location is beautiful and perfect for our fur babies. Our young dog has boundless energy and loves to swim so the pond is a wonderful amenity. Our dogs, Judge and Birdie had a fantastic time at Barkwells. We met some lovely people and they were able to play with other dogs on the property. They loved playing in the pond every day. We stayed in the Fisher Cabin and loved it. We can’t wait to return.

This was our first stay at the Nuggets Lodge location. The home and views are stunning. So relaxing and peaceful. State of the art dream kitchen! Our dogs enjoyed the pet door and the trails. God even gave us a rainbow!

We were a family group of twelve people and four dogs, with different people staying different numbers of days. We had two cabins.
While we were impressed with how well-equipped the cabins were, we were most impressed with staff's friendliness. You really feel like part of the larger Barkwells family.
We arrived about 45 minutes before check-in time, and notified the staff. They said our cabin was ready, and they let us check in early.
Cabins were what I would call “luxury rustic.” Lots of wood in construction and decor, with thoughtful appointments, such as lots of electrical outlets and well-labeled electric switches, and absolutely pristine. The kitchen was well-equipped, with nearly everything one could imagine available. The hot tub was an added bonus. Every cabin, with one exception, abutted a common meadow and pond area. Each cabin has its own fenced-in area for that cabin’s dogs, so there are different levels of containment for canine family members.
The compound is quite secure. One must get through two gates to enter or exit, which keeps the dogs safe.
Bottom line: I’d go back, even though I don’t have a dog!

Barkwells is amazing!! From the moment you pull in through the gate set up like a dog park entrance, turn the corner and see your dog's name on the Welcome sign, you know you're someplace special. Our cabin, the grounds, the staff and even the other guests were just incredible. My dog had the best time, so we had the best time! I've stayed in many "pet friendly" lodgings but this, this was sooo truly all about the dogs. Not only did the dog make friends but we made friends too. I could go on and on. If you have dogs, who play well with other dogs, you really need to make the trip to Barkwells! In addition, the area offers many dog-friendly options: hiking, breweries, parks, and more. The cabin was well-equipped and there was a grocery store just minutes away. We can't wait to come back.

Forget Disneyland…this is the best place on Earth for dogs and their people! Our cabin was quiet, pristine, and beautiful; the grounds were revitalizing & rejuvenating for both canines & humans. The cabins are fashioned with your four-legged family members in mind- bowls, dog sheets/towels, doggie door, and their own yard. The team at Barkwells does impeccable work on a daily basis. We were going to cancel due to the rapidly declining health of our elderly dog, but as soon as he stepped out of the car with the rest of the pack, he had a new lease on life and began engaging with the landscape, “dogging”, and eating his meals! His comeback was nothing short of miraculous. We could not deny the magic of Barkwells; all of our dogs knew immediately that this place was for them, and they felt comfortable in this oasis that over 30,000 dogs had visited before them. It truly is a special place like no other. If you love your dogs and want time to explore the grounds, pond, and beach, or just laze on the deck with them, Barkwells is paradise.

We've stayed at Barkwells more than 10 times now and have always loved it. This was our first stay under the new ownership and we were hoping that they hadn't made any changes we didn't like. We were happy to find everything perfect. The grounds were beautiful and our dogs thoroughly enjoyed wandering around.

BEST vacation with your pup that you could ever take. I don't know how the trip could have been better. We stayed for the first time over the weekend and everything was AMAZING. We were greeted in person by staff upon arrival, we had a "happy birthday" flag outside our cabin and a happy birthday treat inside with a personalized note for my pup who was celebrating her 1st b-day. The cabin was well-equipped and spotless. The grounds were beautifully maintained. We will be staying again. Thank you Barkwells for a fabulous stay!

There isn't much I can say that hasn't been said. What an amazing experience! Every person we talked to was very friendly. The employees are awesome and friendly. We stayed in Diva. It is obvious Barkwells cares and puts a lot of effort into keeping up their cabins. A lot of updated features, clean paint, good furniture, and bits of nostalgia adorn the cabin. Monstrous covered deck. They really have thought of everything from having dog towels and furniture covers, clean up bags everywhere, fenced yards and dog doors, and dog wash stations to treats for both dogs and humans. Barkwells is remote enough to be quiet and peaceful, and close enough to groceries, fuel, restaurants, and car repair (don't ask) to be convenient.

A wonderful vacation for our party of 6 adults and 5 ShihTzues! We loved the well-stocked cabin and our beds were totally comfortable. The well-groomed grounds and the lake were fenced and our unleashed pups surely thought they were in doggie heaven! The staff was so welcoming yet professional. This definitely won't be our last visit to Barkwells!

21 days of heaven. Diva satisfies and delivers on all amenities.
Our 10th visit to this place of tranquility, scenic beauty, and joy. Our dogs seem to smile with each outdoor outing, running free. Sensing their joy is worth the price of admission in and of itself.
But a few other areas serve their 5-star status:
- Hospitality: Bobbi, Sis, & Kimberly run the front office in an efficient manner and are the 1st contact with us. This trio should conduct a “Ted Talk” on how to interact with guests.
- The Grounds: For Leo, Reese, Teri, and others; I am convinced they perceive the grounds as their canvas and as artists enthusiastically strive to deliver a daily art work worthy of the Louvre. Despite their busy set of daily priorities, they always have time for a chat.
- The Cabins: This housekeeping team is 2nd to none. On each visit, the anticipation of arrival is heightened due to our high expectation that is always met. Super clean, well lit, and inviting. This is an extremely hard-working team that Camie has developed over the years.
Well done Barkwells Gang! 5 Starts once again!

We’ve been coming to Barkwells for many years and every time we have a perfect vacation. All of our dogs have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Our latest, Barney the beagle, had so many fascinating smells to investigate, and loved exploring.

Forget Disneyland…this is the best place on Earth for humans and their dogs We brought our four beagles with us, and from the minute of our arrival we were astounded by the hospitality and beauty of Barkwells. Lacey cabin was incredibly clean, comfortable, and dog friendly. Do not stop doing what you are doing in your cleaning practices – so perfect/pristine. The dogs loved the grounds, the pond, the porch, and the dog beds. Our 15-year-old is starting to decline, but Barkwells perked him up and gave him a wonderful experience. He had stopped eating before we arrived, but devoured his homemade meals made in Lacey cabin. Thank you Barkwells.
