SPRING has SPRUNG once again!

SPRING has SPRUNG once again!

We are celebrating our 15th season, flowers are blooming, winter projects are complete, cabins are spic and span from spring cleaning and we are excited to welcome returning and new guests to Barkwells!

Our biggest project this winter was re-locating the memorial garden from the bamboo to its own space near the barn, formerly the chicken yard. We are delighted with the improved access to the pond area through this 4-season garden planted with native landscape. The lovely memorial stones are visible and such a poignant reminder of how special our four-legged family is.

When you come to Barkwells, stroll through, visit or place a stone, or take a moment to sit on the bench and contemplate the beauty of nature and the unconditional love of our four-legged family.

The former bamboo areas are currently being replanted to be restored to a native hardwood forest with the diversity of pollinator plants and native trees and shrubs.

As part of the renovation of the former chicken area, Baxter’s yard also got a much-needed renewal! When we lost the maple tree in a storm last year, it opened the opportunity for the sun to actually grow grass in that yard (and turn the stump into a cute outdoor seat : ). We have doubled the size of the yard, re-landscaped and installed a fabulous patio/walkway down to the gate! Additionally, Peppermint Patty and Diva’s cabins both have lush new yards with fresh sod and mulch.

To kick off our 15th anniversary celebration, we held a drawing on February 1st for all guests who had made a reservation for 2019 by January 31st. Congratulations to the winners of three $1500 gift certificates toward their stay in 2019: John & Marysue Bostle, Martha Noyes and Debra Winter. Thanks to Fisher, the official retriever of winners!

Another way we are expressing our gratitude for 15 wonderful years is by providing every guest who arrives this year with a custom made wooden ornament. We hope that it will bring you fond memories of your visit!

We are so grateful for 15 years of making happy memories for dogs and the people who love them. While spring is especially beautiful, we hope you will Come. Sit. Stay. this year, in any season, to rest, renew and revel in the beauty of western North Carolina with your dogs.
