It's hard to believe that Spring has arrived in the Asheville Mountains, but it's here!

The Biltmore Tulips are up, and everything is starting to bloom! Here are some updates for this spring at Barkwells.

Hiking with dogs can be absolutely wonderful. Just imagine being in the great outdoors with your furry friend, hiking along beautiful streams, and taking in the wonder that nature has to offer. The outdoors is a great way to bond with your dog, especially if done right.

According to the East Valley Animal Hospital, dogs can experience five core emotions that we humans share—fear, anger, disgust, joy, and sadness. They can also feel more nuanced emotions like excitement, distress, contentment, anxiety, shyness, anticipation, and even love.  Moreover, because a dog's emotional maturity correlates to that of a two-year-old child, they aren't capable of feeling emotions that develop after this age, including shame, guilt, pride, or contempt.

Asheville, North Carolina, is a beautiful place to visit in the springtime. The weather is mild and perfect for exploring the outdoors. One of the most popular activities in Asheville is hiking in the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains. The Appalachian Trail is an excellent option for a day hike or a multi-day backpacking trip.
