Our four-legged family never stays with us long enough. In Barkwells’ 15 year history, many guests have had their precious pups move on across the Rainbow Bridge. Years ago, Barkwells carved a path through the bamboo grove in the south eastern corner of Barkwells to create a memorial garden in honor and remembrance of their unconditional love. We partnered with Drucie Eudy of Meadow Creek Stones in Locust, NC, to provide engraved, river rock memorial stones. Over the years, multiple stones have been shipped to Barkwells to be placed by guests during their stay with us , so that the presence and spirit of their faithful dogs can be felt and remembered.

2004-2019

In celebration of 15 years of Come. Sit. Stay.® Barkwells is offering a special promotion.

Many guests are inquiring about the changes going on “next door” as they see the bamboo being removed on the other side of our perimeter fence. In 2016, Unity of The Blue Ridge Church, which owned 21 acres adjacent to Barkwells on the east and south, sold the south 11 acres across the creek from Barkwells. That property has become Carolina Memorial Sanctuary (CMS), the first conservation burial park in North Carolina.

While most people come for the spectacular color and cool fall air in the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains, there is more going on here than you can throw your dog’s stick at!  From art to apples and beer to Barnaroo, there are festivals for every occasion.
